- Size: Highbush cranberry typically grows as a large, multi-stemmed shrub, reaching heights of 8 to 12 feet (2.4 to 3.7 meters). It has an upright, spreading growth habit.
- Leaves: The leaves are opposite, simple, and typically have three lobes, giving rise to the specific epithet "trilobum." The foliage is dark green in summer and can turn shades of red to purple in the fall.
- Flowers: Highbush cranberry produces flat-topped clusters of small, white flowers in late spring to early summer. The flowers are attractive to pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
- Fruit: The fruit is a bright red drupe that resembles a cranberry. While the berries are not true cranberries (Vaccinium species), they are edible and can be used in jams and jellies. They persist into late fall and are a food source for birds and wildlife.
- Habitat: This viburnum is adaptable to a variety of soil types and is commonly found in wetlands, swamps, and along stream banks. It can also grow in drier conditions.

Different plants have different watering needs. Check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch into the soil. If it feels dry, water the plant until the water drains from the bottom of the pot. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
