- Size: American basswood is a large tree that can reach heights of 60 to 80 feet (18 to 24 meters) or more. It has a straight trunk and a broadly pyramidal to rounded crown.
- Leaves: The leaves are heart-shaped, simple, and serrated along the edges. They are typically 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm) in length, with a dark green color.
- Flowers: The tree produces fragrant, pale yellow to cream-colored flowers in early to mid-summer. The flowers are arranged in clusters and are attractive to bees, producing a high-quality honey known as basswood honey.
- Bark: The bark is light gray and develops furrows and ridges as the tree matures.
- Habitat: American basswood is adaptable to a variety of soil types but prefers moist, well-drained soils. It is commonly found in forests, along stream banks, and in other wooded habitats.
- Wildlife Value: The flowers provide a valuable nectar source for bees, and the tree's foliage is consumed by various caterpillars. The seeds are also a food source for some bird species.

Care Instructions
