- Size: Showy mountain ash typically grows to a height of 20 to 40 feet (6 to 12 meters) with a spread of about 15 to 25 feet (4.5 to 7.5 meters). It has a rounded to oval crown.
- Leaves: The compound leaves are pinnate, consisting of 9 to 15 leaflets. The individual leaflets are elliptical with serrated edges. The leaves provide a fine-textured appearance.
- Flowers: In late spring to early summer, showy mountain ash produces clusters of white, fragrant flowers. These blossoms are attractive to pollinators such as bees.
- Fruit: The tree bears small, round, red to orange berries in the late summer to early fall. These berries are an important food source for birds, contributing to the tree's ecological role.
- Bark: The bark is smooth and grayish when the tree is young, gradually developing shallow fissures and becoming rougher as it matures.
