  • Plant Description: Fragaria vesca is a small, herbaceous plant with a spreading growth habit. It typically grows up to 15-30 centimeters (6-12 inches) in height. The plant produces compound leaves with three leaflets that are toothed and hairy on the undersides. Fragaria vesca also produces white or pink flowers with five petals.

  • Fruit: The most notable feature of Fragaria vesca is its edible fruit, which resembles a small strawberry. The fruits are usually red when ripe, though some varieties may produce yellow or white fruits. Wild strawberries are known for their sweet, aromatic flavor and are often enjoyed fresh or used in jams, jellies, and desserts.

  • Habitat and Distribution: Fragaria vesca is native to Europe, Asia, and North America. It can be found in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, meadows, and open fields. The plant prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade but can tolerate a range of growing conditions.

  • Cultivation: Wild strawberries are popular among gardeners due to their compact size and delicious fruit. They can be grown in home gardens, containers, or even as groundcover. Fragaria vesca plants are typically propagated through seeds, runners, or division. They require a sunny to partially shaded location and prefer slightly acidic soil. Regular watering and occasional fertilization can help promote healthy growth and fruit production.

Care Instructions

Different plants have different watering needs. Check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch into the soil. If it feels dry, water the plant until the water drains from the bottom of the pot. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
