- Appearance: Red mulberry trees are medium to large-sized trees that can reach heights of 40 to 70 feet (12 to 21 meters). They have a rounded crown and distinctive, serrated leaves that are alternately arranged on the branches. The leaves are typically dark green on top and paler underneath. The tree's bark is scaly and grayish-brown.
- Fruit: Red mulberries produce small, sweet, and flavorful red to dark purple-black fruits that resemble elongated blackberries. These fruits are edible and have a sweet-tart flavor. They are often enjoyed fresh, used in jams and pies, or dried for snacking.
- Habitat: Red mulberry trees are native to eastern and central North America, ranging from the eastern United States to parts of Canada and Mexico. They are typically found in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, riverbanks, and disturbed areas.
- Wildlife Value: The fruits of Morus rubra are a valuable food source for a variety of wildlife, including birds (such as cedar waxwings and American robins), mammals (like raccoons and squirrels), and insects. This makes red mulberry trees an important part of local ecosystems.
- Conservation: Red mulberry trees are considered threatened or endangered in some regions due to habitat loss and hybridization with the introduced white mulberry (Morus alba). White mulberries, originally from Asia, were planted extensively in North America for silkworm production, and their genes have mixed with those of red mulberries. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and preserve native red mulberry populations.

Different plants have different watering needs. Check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch into the soil. If it feels dry, water the plant until the water drains from the bottom of the pot. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
