  • Bright Yellow Flowers: One of the most distinctive features of Hypericum prolificum is its profusion of bright yellow, five-petaled flowers. These cheerful blooms typically appear in early to mid-summer, creating a striking display.

  • Low-Growing Habit: This shrub has a low-growing and spreading growth habit, typically reaching heights of 1 to 3 feet (0.3 to 0.9 meters) with a greater spread. It forms dense, mounding clumps of foliage and is often used as ground cover or in border plantings.

  • Foliage: The leaves of shrubby St. John's wort are small, oval to elliptical in shape, and have a deep green color. They create an attractive backdrop for the bright yellow flowers and remain on the plant throughout the growing season.

  • Adaptability: Hypericum prolificum is known for its adaptability to various soil types and growing conditions. It can thrive in full sun to partial shade and is tolerant of a range of soil moisture levels, from well-drained to somewhat moist. This adaptability makes it suitable for a variety of garden settings.

  • Wildlife Value: The nectar-rich flowers of Hypericum prolificum attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies, making it a valuable plant for supporting local pollinator populations. Additionally, some bird species are known to consume the shrub's fruit, adding to its wildlife value.

Care Instructions

Different plants have different watering needs. Check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch into the soil. If it feels dry, water the plant until the water drains from the bottom of the pot. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
